Need some help with brakes for a punto cab.

    Hi,

I've been trying to sort out the brakes on the wifes punto cabriolet. They werent working very well, so I decided to put new shoes and drums on it.

Only trouble is that I can feel the shoes bind against the drum as I tighten the two little bolts that hold the drum to the hub. If I drive it, I can feel it binding and it starts to get hot!

Any help or tips to what might be wrong would be good?

I've slackened off the self adjusters and the handbrake appears to be working ok.

    Cheers,

    Paul.

Yeah. I've just taken them appart again and put copper slip on the contact points. I can put the drum easily over the shoes, but when I tighten the retaining bolts up, the shoes seem to bind on the drum.....

This is driving me nuts now!!! I'm wondering if the new shoes are bent or something?

Are you sure the shoes are in the right way around? It sounds as though they're canted at an angle if they bind the more you push the drum in.

Yeah, went in the same way as the old ones. They only go in one way anyway, because of the way the handbrake mechanism sits.
