I'd try some All Purpose Cleaner on it, agitate with a nail brush, and then vac mate!

When my old seat's runners left rust marks on the carpet between the seat and handbrake surround, I used an off the shelf foaming carpet cleaner. The brown/orange debris just lifted out with the foam. 2 foaming sessions later and the area looked new again, so new infact I had to go and buy another can so I could get the rest of carpet to match lol.

You could dye it I guess in a laundrette's big washer, but the most common tatic I've seen on here is for people to spray paint it.

I've seen mats spray painted aswell. It's probably the only way to get the colour back. Before going to that length though, if there's rusty colour left over after, I would try a stronger mixture of APC, or even go neat with it over the affected area and scrub some more..

I use a wet vac aswell btw, which allows you to vac out the dirty water / cleaning solution at the same time as the debris!

Yeah, I have seen that before. It's annoying aint it!! Whenever I have come across it, I have always had to rub it off with neat APC on a microfibre, and then the same again with some isopropanol alcohol (IPA). Seems to be the only thing that will get rid of it! If you find a faster / easier way, please let me know!
