Welcome to the forum.
Hello Everyone
After searching around for a good Punto forum it looks like I may have now found it.
I have just been given a mk2 punto 1.2 16v Dynamic on an 52 plate off of my parents as the head gasket has gone and they are going to buy a new car. I already own a BMW but welcome the Punto very muchly what with the high petrol prices and every other stealth tax the goverment dishes out to us.
I intend to use this car for day to day and keep the BMW for the weekends.
Anyway I just thought I would introduce myself and now I shall search for as much info as possible regarding putting this engine back to tip top condition which I shall start a thread about pretty soon.
I look forward to becoming a regular just like over at the BMW forum and I trust I will be in good hands here.
Thank you for having me here and I look forward to talking to whoever the friendly peeps are very soon.
Regards,
David.
p.s. I am a competent mechanic (granted self taught) so when I ask a question please don't be afraid to hit me with jargon. I will understand and if not then I will ask.
Thanks again guys n girls.
Welcome to the forum.
Welcome buddy, not too far from me! I'll be in Doncaster next Saturday bowling
Thanks guys.
I've had a look round the engine today more than I normaly would of just to be sure on which engine it is.
When I registered on the forum and got to the car model option list I chose 1.2 16v Dynamic because the car is a 1.2 Dynamic and tbh I thought it was an 8v but the option wasn't there so since I haven't got access to the log book at the mintue I have taken a few pictures of the car and engine bay and was hoping one of you will know straight away from these 2 images.
So...
It is an 8v isn't it ?
Cheers
Sure looks like a single cam (8-valve) to me.
welcome, lol you bought a punto and didnt know if it was 16v or 8v lol, whats the next stage for this badass punto?
Hello Shorty thank you for the welcome but I think you should re read what I actually wrote m8.
I know it's an 8v it was just the registration question didn't have the right answer for me and so I just wanted confirmation that the engine I have is correct for the car, which it is and it is the forum reg question answers that need updating. Oh and I didn't buy the car.
Whats next for the car is:
Head Gasket change (as it's failed)
Thermostat change (might as well)
Oil & Oil Filter change
and then we'll see.
In the last 6 months though it has had:
New ECU
New Coil Packs
New Spark Plugs
New HT Leads
New Air filter
New Oil & Oil filter
New Cam Belt & Aux Belt
New Water Pump
Coolant Flush & Renew
And now it's the head gasket that has failed.
Regards,
David.
Wait 'til the list is updated to include the Grande Evo options! TBH, most of the "names" indicate trim levels and other optional extras as a package - fairly irrelevant once you know you the engine and gearbox.
Smiles piss me off!
