    Running turbo with no boost

What I was wanting to know is if I mount a turbo on a n/a car with all the oil and water plumbed in including boost pipes and intercooler could I run it with the wastegate wide open so it creates no boost

I only ask as I'm building this car on a budget and havnt sourced a standalone system yet to run the turbo but I want to fit everything for when I pass my driving test (hopefully in the next 2 months)

    Is this actually possible

I don't want any of the "theres no point just wait" as the engine is in bits having a complete rebuild and I want it back in the car as Iv got no room for it any more

In theory I believe it would work but wondered if I have overlooked anything
    Cheers

in theory it will work... as long as it doesnt suffer boost creep further up the rev range. Theres only one way to find out....

Plus you are messing with the V.E. so MAP sensor values will be slightly out, although i wouldnt have thought by much so it should be ok.

Really you shouldnt bother fitting any turbo parts til you have an ecu to run it all. It will run worse than standard if you've lowered the CR.
You say you havent passed your test yet so im assuming you're 17, in which case you're at the "YER A WANNA TURBO" stage. Also what about insurance...

Nah I'm 20 but havnt passed my test because I ran out of time with my theory
And also the standard compression ratio of the car is 9.3:1 so quite good as standard for turbocharging
Basicaly I want it to look turbocharged without the actually being turbo charged if you get me

Gayest reason ever. Do it properly or dont do it at all.

    What engine and what turbo?

No your getting the wrong idea
It will be turbo'd but I need the room and rather than taking the engine out again I want to fit it all but run it with no boost so all I have to do is install a ecu if that makes it a bit clearer

It isnt really a good idea craig.

Mount the intercooler if you must but just leave the engine NA and on standard managment till you can fit it all in one go.

Dan that was what I was wanting to know really if it was safe to do it or not

In that case I'll leave and just rip the engine back out again

You can all take the piss I don't really care but at least I know now

you can fit everything but take the turbo blades out of the turbo and block the hole with some sheet metal. this will allow exhaust gases to flow through the turbo but without creating boost. done this to my old gt so i could move it around while breaking it.
