The amount of energy stored in a flywheel doing N-thousand rpm is pretty large. Don't forget that the pieces have had to tear through the bell housing first! That one must have broken into multiple pieces from the way it tore the front end apart, and the driver wasn't even wearing a crash-hat!!! Lucky blighter, if you ask me. He was pretty gob-smacked though. Kind of funny-sad really.Could very easily have been much more serious though.

More likely for a (possibly, amateurly) lightened flywheel for drag-racing. The Mexicans are great ones for do-it-yourself engineering.
