if your using an easy out, drill to around half the depth of it.
If you've a hole for one of the others, measure off on a nail or drill bit and then use ~75% of the depth.

ive seen a friend of mine do this to remove studs that had snapped flush with the surface, he used a mig welder and kept putting tiny spots of weld on top of the stud, eventually it had enough build up on the head of the stud to clamp on a vice grips and just wind it out. hes handy with the welding and is a proper mechanic. he says the bit of heat from the second of weld helps free the stud a bit too, but not to let too much heat build up.
What a dunce I am.
The previous owner(s) and (myself included last time I put the turbo on) had not bolted the exhaust manifold supporting bracket to the block.
Therefore the turbo would have been rocking like a horse under load - with all the weight on the manifold studs/bolts.
We live and learn.
Thus my manifold gasket is destroyed in once place after only 1 week of running.
What a FOOOOOOOOL I feel.
but did you get the stud out?
