I have bought a fan for mine, spending a few quid on a fan is way better than paying out for a replacement one, where is it located? it in a ventilated area with nothing obstructing the fan?

    Phail.
The fan actually restricts the air flow that the Ps3 is designed to use to cool it's self down. The Ps3 doesn't require assistance like that.
It's a machine, it gets hot - I would check what is actually wrong by doing a disgnosis online or something.

had my 60gb since it was released no problems whatsoever, sometimes original fan kicks in when the room is too warm but other than that its perfect.
