Finally joined the site after 3 years of owning Punto GT's!
I'm a Fiat fan in general and had a K reg Uno Turbo until she finally rotted away after 8 years of ownership so the obvious progression was to a GT.
My first was a GT1 which was structurally sound but a mechanical nightmare so I bought what I thought was a mint GT3 a few months ago and have just discovered she is pretty rotten underneath, especially along the inner sill lines where the jacking points are.
I know it's a common thing, especially with the later ones for some reason but is it economically repairable, only I see loads of people breaking them on ebay when this has happened.
Any advise appreciated, also any trust worthy garages in West London/Middlesex that would know what they are doing?
garages can charge a couple hundred pounds to do the work because it is quite time consuming. i think it stupid to breake a car just because it has a little bit of rust.
if you are feeling confident and got some time on your hands why don't you have a go yourself?
I would have a go if I had the time but I just don't working 70hrs a week and only getting every odd saturday off!
A few hundred sounds good to me though as I had thousands in my head! Now the challenge is finding a garage thats interested to do the work (and thats open when I can get there) as the few I took her to yesterday must be so overwhelmed with business as they just wern't interested to even take a look.
Back alley garages are the best for welding IMO.
I got 2 hub bearings pressed out and in for 21 cans of diet coke.
i thought unos were bad for rust why didnt fiat learn and do a better job at undersealing the puntos?!

Cool! Well she's running sweet again after a £1500 trip to the workshop for welding/brakes overhaul/cv's/engine mounts etc.
Any ideas on the best method to sell the plate?
You are rigth about later ones suffering general rust more then early models.
Your looking at £200-500 to sort some strips of rust out under the car i would of thought. Save alot of money if you can take the carpet out and what not prior!
