Black smoke is usually carbon build up getting blasted out.
Nothing to worry about.
Picked these up t'other day from middle'O nowhere, well chuffed with them, thanks to Si for the heads up. They never stay for sale long on the MLR!!!
Will cost about £40 a wheel to have them powder coated a different colour, looking at the same anthracite as my standard MR wheels.
18x8 inch, 35 offset which should bring them out a smidge, but perfect for an Evo!

Bilsteins are in good nick so up for sale!
]Had it all laser aligned and cambers setup to -1.5 on the fronts and -1.3 on the back, really sharp now!
This was soon after so could settle a little lower yet.
In the end went for 25mm off the front and 10mm off the back. Ride is 4/5ths of the bilsteins in comfort, so a small loss but a leap ahead in road holding and feel, can really tell the difference.
