Quite a while since any update...
Last week I had my bootlid repaired and resprayed. On the 8 at high speed the wing presses against the bootlid either wearing through the paint or deforming it enough to crack the coating letting in the wet and therefore the rot. The chaps at the unit nextdoor to work have done a top remedy and prevention job on it and the paint is a pretty good match so I can't grumble, a few days later they kindly re-laquered the carbon wing for me too.

Looks the dogs danglies that does Dan, have you thought about getting the FMIC painted? It's the only thing that spoils the front end imo as the rest of the car is pukka
It's on the to do list Rich though not very high up it at the moment, when I powder coat the grills I may give it a lick of rattle can to cover it up!
Ideally I would like an upgrade one. Im going to have a look to see if powder coat is complete no go for the intercooler, assume it will be but you can buy black coolers, doubt there just painted, will chip off like no ones business!
I would of thought powder coating is a no no too as it's fairly thick paint isn't it? When i painted mine i used hammerite and although it was on the punto it's not got any stone chips yet.
The Zaf cooler is black from factory and that certainly isn't powder coated

To stop the swirling on Japanese paint is very difficult - even with the 2 bucket method and a really long pile mitt like the Dodo Wookie. You need to upgrade the surface with a semi-permanant coating, like Ceramishield or some other ceramic coating. This will increase swirl resistance ten-fold. Effectively upgrading your soft-soft paint to medium, as the coating becomes the active surface layer of your paint.
I have closely been monitoring the blue Civic I coated with a ceramic coating I was testing before I became Ceramishield approved, and it's holding up very well. The swirling has been kept to a minimum, ~10% damage. Whereas the black EP3 I did around the same time was only protected by a wax, has swirled up to around 30% (assuming I had reset it to 0 after polishing).
