ISP's always advertise the BANDWIDTH and not the THROUGHTPUT, bandwidth is the max the line can handle, you will never see close to this as the likely hood of you being the only one on that line is.....ermm.... not likely? when you do get up to serious speeds there are more limitations, most severs are capped, meaning the port you connect to has a limitation on the speed you recieve, hope this helps.....

i have just done a speed test on my connection... that was my result, i then downloaded something off microsoft, for the simple reason that downloading off a server is quicker than p2p and i achieved 851KB/sec, i could do this test again in 4 hours and get something different, it really depends on the time, not forgetting that america are "x" amount of hours behind us, the internet is just as busy at night as it is in the day

speedtest is alot of ****. so is ur thoery lol.

compare mine to urs... wow... dont they almost look the same.. -.-

about 28 process's run on windows xp. minimum, that leech internet speed. ur getting.
yes i agree , distance of the server, etc. time. etc...

but theres alot more too it "then were ur located & what time of day it is."

and p2p is much faster then a server.

peer 2 peer , was purely invented for leech of multiple seeds ( not to judge the fact that it was also invented for "untraceable downloads" hense why ppl actually share files this way . . how can u say 1 server can beat 14000 ?

yes i see what you are saying and i didnt disagree with that, i was quite simply pointing out the fact that the information ISP's give is bandwidth and not throughput.... i was simply listing other factors that limit the speed that havent been mentioned, what would be the point of repeating what you have already said? The reason for my choice of a server is purely to do with the fact that i have found p2p connections to be slower in my experience, i know what you are saying and understand that it uses more than one server, seed, what ever you want to call it. When your pc has to deal with 1400 different connections...thats not easy, one direct fast conection is easier for the computer to deal with, would you be able to establish and have 1400 different conversions easily? Dont get me wrong i use p2p program's jsut like most people on here and i love them, and i do get very high speeds, i just used the server as an example in the above post as to gain a high speed in p2p communication takes time, as connections have to be established, as you already know, so for a quick analysis of my own connection i used microsofts server

ok cool. alot of people miss one thing when using p2p programs.

the more speed ur upload is , the less ur download speed is.
its a fact. most programs, will not allow u to download. unless u upload a certain percentage. so for a little tweak, set ur upload speed at 17.5kbs, and u should see a download improvement of about. 25%. also.

people forget, broswer objects, broswers. etc they all do the same thing. just like ur computer. that has hidden process's/\ which can be tweaked yet again.

    but yeh. the fact is.

like u said they say "upto" 8meg, but thats wut they can provide. ur location etc like u said is the factor. along with settings, etc.. and even ur network card.
