Afm pipe
Well I wanted to get my filter behind the opening on my morrettes so ordered some 3" alloy pipe and plumbed it in

Now took it to the drag strip today, went easy on the way there no boost really but on the track it didn't perform well at all, boost was all over the place and just wasn't constant causing loss of power.
Obviously I'm gonna put the original pipe back on and see how it is but should this upgrade caused the problem, too much air flow and the afm doesn't like it?
-
I think it could be more to do with the length or diameter of the alloy pipe? I'm sure someone on here had stalling issues and it turned out to be the alloy pipe.
-
Yep, heard this many times now.
-
Argh right cheers guys, was gutted it wasn't performing right. But I have seen people like superman do this, is it because I'm on seb2 and would need remapping if I wanted to keep the pipe?
-
A map may sort it, I guess its because of the larger pipe it takes the air ratio outside of the MAF perimeters? I have no idea....wasn't Superman using Megasquirt or something though?
-
I'm sure it's the length of the pipe.
Id just cut it down and fit an air feed from the morrette.
-
What I will do is put the original back on and I should be able to get the filter out the morrettes with that 45 elbow.
-
It could be the new set up changing the way the air is going through the AFM and upsetting it a bit. That happened on the Evo when I changed the intake without changing the map. And the Bosch AFM design is 10 years older so might not like the change.
-
Id put the afm direct behind the filter, thats where its designed to sit

Argh right that might be a good call Todd, so the problem might not be the new pipe but the elbow I've used for the filter.
-
That's pretty weird.
I dunno about the filter being directly on the AFM - for years, i had mine extended a bit longer than Lee has his and i never had any issues with boost.
Someone on the FB page had made a turbo to AFM pipe kit like yours Lee, can't remember who it was tho, but it may be worth finding out if they had any issues.
What have you done with the other hoses that are supposed to go into the original turbo/AFM pipe? Charcoal filter, ICV etc?
-
I ran a solid pipe exactly the same as that, but had an inlet added as was running forge recirc. After the solid elbow, I had the afm then apexi filter in a straight.....no issues

Looking at the pics, id put money on the baileys dv causing boost leak

I bet ur right Todd, I've had that baileys for 10 years now and does seem to stick sometimes. Not had chance to test it yet, was waiting on a silicone reducer, 70-57 from the turbo to the pipe which arrived today so will test at weekend. Think I may get a new dv too.

I made my own last week, runs spot on! But i replicated the shape of the original AFM>turbo hose.
70mm->60mm 90deg reducer, and a 70mm 90deg alloy pipe. Used the cut offs from the reducer to use on the other end of the allow pipe.
Still need to chop the alloy pipe back so i can refit the AFM to the bracket and get my old 45deg bend samco on.

looks loads better kas.....

hi , when I was the proud keeper of r616 osl I had a similar filter set up but without the morrettes and the extra bend post afm ,no running issues what so ever . I would suggest losing the bend and also maybe refit the lamp to lose the ram-air effect as maybe its just getting too much air for the map and i'd worry it maybe causing lean fueling ? slightly educated guess based on my basic knowledge and previous ownership of this very nice example of the marque
-
How's the car these days Lee? I do miss the it sometimes, was probably one of the nicest examples on here when I had it.
-
Bevvy, Lee has just taken it down to FCP to be remapped today!
GT2554r setup, and stripped out now inside, looks class, but i'll let him post the pics ;)

Turbo let go apparently, both oil & water seals. Bit strange tbh
