That looks really clean mate
MINT! Looks right for a gt lump, why cant you lower it pal?
Thanks :)
Unfortunately insurance will bend me over if I declare it lowered! I'm only seventeen.
Oh and it's filthy in the pictures, I hadn't washed it for a few days and I do 200-300 miles a week.
don't tell them you've lowered it ay ;) ?
Just lower it the same hight as a Punto Sporting which aint drasticly low then it wont notice so much, and if anything happend which I hope wont, you tell the insurance I brought the car like it half the time they dont know the full spec of all cars some dont even know cars LoL as long as it dont look like a lowrider on the floor like I doubt they would even notice.
Cheers for the suggestions.
It's not actually an SX, it's just an S although I couldn't find the option for it.
I purchased some new speakers today to replace my old ones at the back which I think I've blown. Alpine ones from Halfords.
I also have new number plates to fit and as I want to mint out the engine bay I'm planning on replacing all of the rusty bolts with replacement ones from a local industrial supplier where they are like 16p each. I'm also gonna spray my manifold with VHT paint. Unsure what else to do really.
How much extra are they asking if you fit lowering springs?
You do know interior 'mods' need to be declared too?
I haven't asked yet mate but I know it won't be cheap.
I need to declare replacement speakers?
Replace things with stock parts from other models, and I think you should be ok on the insurance part..... (although I am no lawyer)
sporting springs (-15mm)
colour coded widemouth bumpers
GT sideskirts and spoiler
GT coded wing mirrors
GT/Sporting seats and centre console etc etc
Will -15mm be even a noticeable amount of lowering?
Remember my engine is a lot lighter than others (as far as I know).
Or.....
Everytime you decide to spend money on non essential stuff for the car, put the money in a jar instead and in a year or so, you'll have the money to buy a higher spec punto like a GT, or another type of higher spec car altogether. Remember that the value of your 55 is unlikely to rise at the same proportion that you spend on it.
Paul :)
Yes. it will be 15mm. Go out to the car with a ruler and see how much difference it makes. Weight wise, the 1.2 16v sporting engine cant be much different in weight to yours.
It'll be worth it, as someone on here will probably have a set that they are willing to give you for free, and they aren't hard at all to fit, so it'll be a nice free upgrade!
I've considered that mate but I'd rather just spend it on my current car. It's a hobby and an interest of mine. I'm gonna try and make it last as long as possible. It has 83k on it and is 16 years old, but it still feels pretty solid to be honest!
I used to own a mk2 ELX and I much prefer this car despite being a MUCH lesser spec.
Then why not ask, it might be very low??
Wrong move.
It's the move most of us have made but it's not the most viable move. Even a sporting would be a massive step up, never mind a gt. You will get bored, especially when you see how attainable a better car is..
If I get one of the various apprenticeships I've applied for I'll be buying whatever I can.. sporting mk2 possibly
looks very clean congratz.
if your going to get GT wheels you 100% need to drop it, 200quid will get you some lowering springs and shocks.
but i wouldnt throw to much money at it, you'll never see the cash again
I have PM'd you, to see if you are still having the alloys? and iv got some 40mm springs and g-max dampers for the rear. I might have some front springs kicking about somewhere. Wont want alot for them but it will probably hike the postage up alot.
let me know mate
I am still after the alloys mate - sorry I didn't reply to the pm. Can't afford the springs and whatnot however :(
looks clean, change the headlight and bumper bolts then it would look mint!
And just cut your springs then there still the standard ones
Run black steelies and lower it over alloys on current height imo!
This!
How does an insurer not know that the origional buyer spec'd all of the above as optional extras??!!
Its a shame however folk can't see the lad hasn't got the funds to mod it and has given a credible reason for just looking after it.
Cheap and cheerful driving does you alot of good when you're a youth!
To be honest this car is really really tidy for its age, you've done a greaat job especially in the engine bay.
It's more likely to be respected and stand any chance of appreciating by keeping it relatively standard.
It's only due to people modifying cars past their limits, that they end up broken or completely undesirable. Looks great as it is - it isn't trying to pretend it is something that it isn't, like so many cars do as soon as they are modified.
Keep it as it is and enjoy it. :)
Thanks for the comments.
I enjoy modifying cars. Infact I enjoy anything about cars really, especially maintenance (repairs/oil changes/changing bits) etc. Hence the clean engine.
I really want it to be a 'level' car hence the alloys just to neaten it up.
My group of friends I go out with all drive brand new Corsa D's, Swifts, Clios etc so I'm just trying to make mine look reasonably good. My friends have no idea how to maintain their 60/61 plate cars - one of my friends put screenwash into his coolant! They find it hilarious I spent so much time looking after mine when it's 'only' a punto.
Superman you know what I'm going on about.
It runs like a dream and is powerful enough for me (I go everywhere at 55, there are no motorways for over 150 miles). I have a 50 mile commute daily and it does actually disappoint me on mpg, but I'm happy to own it.
out of interest what sort of mpg are you getting mate? just replaced the engine in my 55 and i have never seen it on the road!
and i agree with you on the price of things these days! i am 18 and the best quote i have for insurance on a 1.1 is over 2.5k! and that's the only sensible one, forget the 30+ qoutes at 5k [-(
Just on the above that's been said. I have GT bumpers and sideskirts that I don't need. Your a fair distance from me. Other end of the country. But if postage can be sorted and a drink on top. You could have them? The side skirts are mint but the bumpers need a bit of tlc. There also black but I'm sure you could sort them out as it looks like your good with body work.
In all honesty the mpg isn't great, as far as I know it's between 38 and 43mpg. The car is really short geared so sitting at 60 it revs really high.
Thanks for the offer mate. Unfortunately I live in a pretty dire area of Scotland where everything is more expensive on postage. And even a set of alloys is £60 to courier up here. :(
I added some new pics to the first post :)
really nice and clean, what bulbs are the front lights and number plate lights? really freshen it up.
Thanks pal. That's the look I'm going for, fresh/clean. I have new plates which will freshen it up even more.
My sidelights are ridiculously bright 25led 501's from ebay which were about £3, and the numberplate lights are 6led festoons from ebay which were 99p. That was only my sidelights, not my dipped :)
great little modification. simple with good results
Could you send a link for them number plate lights :D
Here you go mate. Less than £2 for the pair delivered.

Few things. I'd recommend cleaning the inner lenses when you have them off with a cleaner of some kind (even fairy liquid) as they get really dirty. When you fit them if they don't work, turn them round. Also they're 'directional' so remember to point them with the LEDs facing down.
:)
You are easily pleased.
Sorry?
Clear front indicators and side repeaters and it would look even cleaner !! :)
