Crack after filling with fresh water?
Only to have all facts, the wall thickness is bigger at the area of the head gasket (for around 10mm height), you can see it easily.
The crack at the shown picture starts in this area. So I don't believe that the bore is the "root cause".
How ever, more information would be nice and helpful, not only pictures of scrapped parts.
we will get more pictures up soon. just in the process of dropping the new engine in.

I don't want to seem like an ignorant mofo, but isn't this asking too much from the SOHC block? in what concerns internal forces, vibrations, engine torque, etc? wouldn't a custom made block guard do any good here, in preventing further cracks?
