My thoughs are repair my car (to my high standards) or sell for good money and invest in a newer car, e.g. lupo

I dont need a car atm for around 6 months, due to job so can save lots from new job this way.

    old now and over priced

They stopped making the lupo gti a few years ago, they cost silly money for what they are and for a similar price there are a whole host of better motors available. Production stopped at the end of 2005.

well im going to be putting my car up for sale very soon, so with either save for a lupo gti (around 5k me thinks) or get a sporting for £800!

Go for the VW! You will land up spending the other 4.2k on repairs and styling with the sporting, were as the vw look mint already

it may be reliable but when vw, audi seat skoda do go wrong then they go wrong big time and cost alot. so its not as good as every1 thinks.
