    Spark Plugs

    Hi all.

    My Punto is due a service. It's a 2001 MK2.

I have advertised it on eBay but now looking at it and starting it up it makes me want to keep it. But i cant deal with the hassell of going Gillingham for a VIC and a new MOT etc.. I can get an MOT easy as its totaly sound.

But today i thought to check the spark plugs and see whats going on..

Well reading from Haynes Manual they are "Carbon Fouling" which means they are "Dry, black, sooty deposits".

Fault - Over rich fuel mixture.
Check - Carburettor mixture settings, float level, choke operation, air filter?

I know how to check the air filter but with the rest i dont have a clue.

Can anyone help me with pics or explainations please.

    Thanks

if it has no restriction in the airbox then all you can do is take it for a thrashing and see if they come back sooty.

But you will need new plugs to accurately determine any fouling/deposits etc because it could easy be caused by misfiring by old plugs. IME the 16v goes through plugs very quickly anyways.

Yeah spark plugs are £2.05 each (NGK) so cheap enough.
I admit it does need a hell of a good thrash. Been sitting since 7th Febuary, might take it for a quick spin tonight. But apark from that and change of air filter and spark plugs what else can be suggested?

    Thanks

well if its been sitting, and never brought up to temperature or worked hard, then thats your problem right there.

Bring it up to temperature, then get it thrashed.

I have brought it up to temperature when i plumbed the new radiator on but didn't drive it, just reved it abit. Then once the fan kicked in i just turnt the engine off. But i will get it HOT tonight and take it for a quick thrash.

    Thanks
