All you need to do is add www.xlerate.net to your favourites and check it out every now n then, on there you can find info on major motorspots events both track and rally.

Also here's a list of events that we will be covering (basically the events which we feel are worth checking out): http://www.xlerate.net/X07/2007_Events.html

For track race events just look on web-site such as silverstone, thruxton or motorsport vision.... they have the main track events.

Rally info is all over the net... somtimes it can be skechy and hard to actually get good info such as maps and stage times etc.

I find that www.racedates.net can be a good starting point to find out what events are on and where.

Then once you have targeted a rally, basically just research it.

Use google to get more info on the rally, looking for motor club sites or the events main web-site that organese it ... which should contain more detailed info.

Check that the rally has a history, check that it has a good number of cars entered, there's nothing more disapointing that driving for 2 hrs to find only 25cars taking part.

Over the past couple of years I have learnt a few things about rallying so here's my top tips:

    1. Be prepared to travel and spend a weekend in a hotel.... a good rally will be worth the time, distance and money.

    2. Weather - a good pair of water proofs will be needed, if it's pissing down with rain....then GREAT! that makes rallying more fun... which also means MUD!

    3. Get a good pair of walking boots as you will do a lot of walking around stages to find good viewing spots.

    4. Prepare for the event... get all your maps printed out and plan your route to each stage beforehand... you can gurantee that you will get lost and drive around for ages... so allow time plenty of time.

    5. Early mornings - yup if you can't hack an early start on road then you probably will miss half the action.
For example for Wales Rally GB Iam usually based just north of Cardiff or Swansea and would be hitting the road at anything between 5am - 6am just to get to the stages in time to find a good spot.

Oh an remember motorsport especially rallying can be dangerous... you can get real close to the action at most events.

Some will have spectator areas with marshals... but most of the time you are free to roam around and walk the stages.
So when the cars get to close make sure you have an escape route to dive out of the way.
