    Internet connection problems, plz help.

Ok, i will try and explain this the best way i can.............

Last week, i started PC and the light on the router was red which meant no internet connection. If i tried to load I.E then it would just come up with the Speedtouch page.

I re configured the router, but no joy.
I turned it on and off, no joy.

I then tried again, and instead of the S,Touch page I.E put a message saying problems with Firewall and something about port 80 and 443 and another one, which i cant remember, ive not had the page again.

I then thought about system restore, which i did and then all was ok, im back on line.

Everything was ok for a few days, then this morning i try to connect and again the red light is on - so system restore and all is ok again.

Does anyone know what is blocking my lap top from letting it conncet to the internet, and if so, what i can do.

I have not added any programs, well i did add Avast yesterday, but it was doing this before that was added.

Also, doing system restore everyday, is that bad for the PC?

    Cheers in advance.

It wouldnt be to do with this dodgy windows update file that keeps downloading would it?
I've heard of a couple of things going wrong with the latest update and its ok after a restore until it updates again.
Its one of those that you cant choose not to download either i think?
    Maybe that?

So do I, my dad had a problem with his. He chose not to download any updates but some just come down anyway straight from microsoft I think?
Was just a thought, chances are its nothing to do with that but it was the way it was ok after a restore for a short while
    never mind then.
