    Some recent faffing

May have seen some pics before but i wrot ethie for another forum, but thought id share it with all

Well the other week id had enough of the engine soundign like this....

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3inErWvdqoI

Was almost sure it was a crack in the exhaust manifold, so id had enough of this after a few weeks, and began ripping it to bits.

How it was when i started

you can see it been abit black where the fumes have been coming up and out

    black....

after removing the heat shield and inlet manifold i could see what the problem was.... a new 41pence nut had come off and as it wasnt tight on its blown the gasket out

where the fumes had been passing up and out

So i slapped a new gasket on, with plenty of hylomor, just teghtening it down and *disaster*

The only thread on the cylinder head not to have been previously helicoiled comes loose so basically, the heads gotta come off again to be helicoiled, had looked at time-serts but i thought this was a helicoil thats come out but it has never been done. so anyway.... This was at the ned of Jan, i decided to not renew the tax on the 1sxt of feb and take it to bits, renew some parts and wait for the tubular manifold that was due to be done (this week but isnt)

So i cleaned some bits up

    the inlet...

    Rocker cover

£30odd quids of head bolts and stud-nuts

    New timing belt tensioner

    random under car shot....

    Some front end bits

Finally found some suitable M12 bolts to properly fit the cooler with.

oil, i made a right mess.

    make-shift shelter

    half a downpipe

A few pipes removed and the cover off

This cam is looking abit worn all of a sudden, but gotta leave it in for now as im not clued up on how to correctly shim if i put the other shaft in... yet, anyway.

    Turbo and manifold...

Internal wastegate looking in fooooking good nick still

    valve springs

    Deck and pistons

    cylinder head

    New turbo oil feed

    What a mess....

Spent all yesturday running all of nottinghamshire, taking bits to two seperate engineers, having the head tested and then skimmed (no pics yet) and fetching gaskets and stuff... so hoping to have it all back in tomorrow.

Update when ive got more done

Jeez alot of work you got done there mate, id love to have a place like that at home where i could work on my car. going to repaint your rocker cover? your engine bay has always looked so clean, must of been livid when you took boost pipes and the inlet off! just a quick of the topic question, is there a way of mounting the fse gauge facing upwards?

Well you can mount it anywhere basically, its juse there as it was there near enough when i bought it, you dont really use the gauge to be honest, only just to make sure thigns arnt right off... Ideally it should be blanked off. Ill try some other positions tomorrow if i get that far.

No the last thread came out the cylinder head, so it needed to come off to be helicoiled. Hopefully thats the last time!!! till the next time.
