    Golf GTi Mk5

    had a race with one...

well, didn't really have a race with one, that'd be stupid with my 60s

one of the boys in work has one and went to KFC with him in his. It's a sweet car. Though his daddy bought it for him, and he's got a load of extras, 18" wheels (like the ones in the pic i think), DSG semi automatic gear box, full leather, and £150 for the mirrors to "fold in" (or move an inch) when the ignition is turned off, lol - probably more extra's too!

He wouldn't let me have a drive, lol, you gotta ask. but being a passenger put a smile on my face.

i thought it fet pretty quick anyway, well, compared to my punto! the engine sounds mean in the higher revs

he told me about the gear box's "sport" option, which allows the car to rev higher and speeds up the gear change, which i thought was already was dead fast! he kicked it and i nearly had 2 KFC cokes in my face, it gets a lil thirsty on sport mode tho. he kept it in full auto, but has flappy paddles and the option of up or down on the gear stick.

interior was nice, liking the dash, ~7" tft head unit (CD/satnav/tuner and some other stuff), would like to have a visual in option on there for DVD or PC though.

ride was good, didn't have chance to throw it around any corners, but it felt good over speed bumps - again, compared to my -50mm punto.

he's on about getting a new exhaust system and a stage 1 chip which he thinks should take it to around 250bhp - but only if his dad pays for it!

overall i was well impressed with it, but i think the £25k is out of my price range for a next car!

not the best car report ever, but then i cant be assed to type, and i'm not applying for Jeremy Clarkson's job!

It really pisses me off when parents buy things like that for their kids. They should learn what its like in the real world and work for things rather than sponging off their parents.

Its out now I saw it on Fifth Gear.

    Its a 1.4 with a turbo and a supercharger.

    0 - 60 in 7.9 iirc.

Theres 2 versions of the Mark 5 GT Golf.
The 170 bhp 1.4 super and turbo charged version, which is only £1500 cheaper than a full blown GTi and the 170 bhp TDi version. The 1.4 (other than for pose value and slightly better fuel economy) doesn't seem to make that much sense. However I bet the 170 bhp TDi is a bit of a tool.
