Who's going to pay for all the young generation to learn english though?

Txt spk was invented for one reason - lazy, illiterate people.

Personally, I dont use 'txt spk' when using SMS, I find it far quicker to tap in the correct words rather than teach my T9 dictionary every ****ing shortened word I can think of.

If you need to say something in more than 160 characters, you should be ringing the person. Trust me, they'd appreciate it.

I use the T9 dictionary too. Don't see the point in shortening words.

I saw this on the Gadget Show on five the other week, I'm not sure if its true but in the States they don't know what texting is as they have always had Push To Talk (that turns your phones into a walkie talkie). PPT is supposed to be coming over here soon.

I wonder if txt spk would be so prevalent in this country if we had had PPT from the start? Theres a topic for an English Degree thesis

I'm sure PPT will come over here, although we'll probably pay £40 per PPT or something rediculous. Sounds a bit gay though, I'm not the sort of person who would publicly use my phone as a walkie talkie. I think it would possibly look more daft than the idiots who use hands free devices.

Its arrived by the look of it.

They did trial it on the show, one of the things you could do is shout something rude when one of your 'buddys' is in a meeting and they'd forgotten to take themselves off the available list

Same, let the phone do all the work. It gets the words right 90% of the time, and learns those which don't.

And I thought SMS messages were more than 160 now? Was always under the impression it chains more than 1 together, increasing the character limit
