Darn, you beat me to posting this mook, I didn't get a chance yesterday.
I was thinking about applying the word censor to certain `txt spk` words. It couldn't be applied to all words (eg sum is a true word) and numbers on their own (like 2 and 4).
Internet acronyms like IMHO and ROFL would be left alone.
Text speak came about for two main reasons.
1. SMS messages are limited to 160 characters.
2. Its a pain to write words in full on a phone keypad (I know because I'm writing this on one right now).
When you are on a forum 1. does not apply and the majority of people will be using a full keyboard. This is all my own opinion, but just imagine a book like Tolkiens Lord of the Rings written in text speak!
