    206 GTi vs Megane Coupe

    Anyone with experience of both?

    206 GTi - 2.0 16v - 138bhp - 190Nm - 1125kg - 8.0 0-60 - 14.50 60-100
    Megane - 2.0 16v - 140bhp - 200Nm - 1135kg - 8.3 0-60 - ? 60-100

Pretty similar spec'd cars, just wondered if anyone has any good/bad points about either, and has driven both?

    Stuck!

Ruled out 106GTi cos of small engine and no air con and a basic car.
HGT is a Fiat, though a good spec, it's a Fiat.
Ibiza Cupra, good car but looking at 7k for a good one, don't wanna spend that much.
172, good car, 7k for a goodun, don't wanna spend that much.
    Only wanna spend about 4-5.5k.

Friend of mine had a 2.0 16v Megane cabrio and it did loads of miles in the 3 years he had it - nice car, very reliable and loads of standard kit. Not what you`d call a hot hatch though - bit sluggish - maybe the extra weight affected it compaired with say the normal coupe.

Yeah, I'd presume the cabby would be a fair bit heavier. On paper they look similar. But paper figures are misleading.

If I was choosing between those 2, id say the Peugeot.

Well, the interior (dash, front seats) are nicer in the 206, and it's half leather, which I prefer to full leather for some reason. But I prefer the look of the coupe, as the 206 looks pretty much identical to the 1.1! I also like the rear in the coupe, as there are 2 seats instead of a bench. and electric rear windows!

hopefully test drive em both at the weekend.

i would be inclined towards the renault as it is nicer looking and not so small

pugs always feel like a wing and a prayer is getting you about without crashing rather the megans is much more solid and as for speed nothing a bit of laughing gas can't sort

Have a look at an Astra coupe, rather sexy for a griffin motor and the 2.2 is quite a sweet mover.

    145bhp
    0-60 : 8.2

And for £6.5k thats around about the 2.0 turbo market.

id be weary of 0-60 times as it may well just be using 2nd gear. You really need to know what the 30-50 and 50-70 etc times as these are the most likely speeds you'll be booting it from

Megane coupe nice looking cars, I always thought they seemed much bigger than the 206...

p.s. for 5k you will probably get same quality of 206gti as 172. Dont rule either out until youve ragged a few
