Its not really worth buying a PCI graphics card tbh, they are too old now, and your better off saving the money and buying a newer motherboard with PCI-Express and then a GFX card to suit.
He means PCI, not PCI-e (the new standard designed to replace AGP).Originally Posted by Garryboy
AGP was initially created because PCI couldn't provide enough bandwidth that the graphics cards needed to render scenes/games.
PCI-e is the new standard that is even now superior to AGP, and will become mainstream within a year.
If I already had a PCI-e motherboard I'd go and get a Sparkle GF 6600GT, best value card by far atm.

For that price i would be looking at the ATI range, i got a Nvidea 5900XT 128 for £90 at a computer fair but thats the only reason i'm running it, would swap for a 9800 pro anyday
ok let me rephrase.
I have acquired a dell dimension 3000.
it only takes pci.
what is the best pci card i can get?
nVidia GeForce FX 5200 128Mb
thanks.... i'll look into it.....
just arranged for a nVidia GeForce FX5200 256Mb....
it will do, not really into games, but it will do for quakeII

Sorry to put a downer on that card but i had a FX5200 128 and it was pony, give it a go but when you either come to benching it or playing something that requires more power you will notice the let downs. Due to it being pci tho you were limited to choice and thats probobly the best you are gunna get
