I just bought an extra 256mb dimm pc3200 for my PC.
What will it actually do?
my machine has been freezing up loAds lately.

it will just help u to run more programs at the same time,

The memory will speed up your system with noticeble difference have u installed the memory already and your pc has started to freeze now it could be because you have installed the wrong type of memory u need to make sure that the memory you by is the same as the memory you already had in yr pc otherwise if the pc had been freezing b4 you have bought the new memory take out the old memory and put in the new stick rather than haveing them all in there this might solve the problem.
