just read this whole thread.. wow unlucky beau! i think youve taken it really well! on the flipside, yes its looks rotten but anything is fixable just depending on how much cash and time your willing to give it,i work in a bodyshop and ive seen a hell of a lot worse than that put back on the road! youve lost the cash now,why not stick it to one side and fix it over time. i know a guy who had a mk2 escort shell that was litterally scrap,a lad came up from the local college wanting a shell to practice welding/fabricating on,its now on the roadworthy.if i was the best part of 3 grand deep in a punto, i wouldnt be ringing the scrap man, thats just my tuppence worth anyway

I don't mean to offend anyone nor start any type of war. But seing cars like these being scrapped due to this amount of rust is crazy, when i compare it to what is done here in Portugal. More than worth saving on this side of europe!

Ha.maybe we should be picking up cheap mk1 3 dr s or sx cars from these overseas countries to drive back home and use for shell swapping.

I'm positive labor costs in Portugal are much lower than in the UK, most garages will have your pants down for this kind of repair, if its not cost effective then the only option is to scrap it. Poorly maintained, not all GTs rust like it...

Is there a real market for Punto Gt's over there? I mean would a semi decent 900£ gt here command double if not more over in Malta?

There isn't no a real market. I think my two GTs are the only Yellow and Blue GTs registered on the Island. (There are some more GTs but different colours) However there are quite a number of enthusiast of old/older fiat cars here such as crazy ones like me. Mainly because we are so close to our neighbors Sicily less than 50 miles away. A semi decent 900£ GT would command double here for sure. I think its because the standards in UK are much higher ...

Yes, but wages are also much higher in the UK. I was in England visiting a friend for a few days, and i was amazed at the amount of powefull hot hatches you had on the road. WRX sti's, golf's vr6 (5 doors included), just to name a few. I think the culture of the country itself, plus the price of the cars themselves not to mention the weather, make for these outcomes... I always think to myself "impounding cars just for this rust??? JESUS!" for example.. i own a UT, so naturally i was a fan of Dunc's (green and white uno turbo's) and the green shell he deemed not road worthy was worth around 2000 euro at least, in Portugal. Seeing him getting rid of that was...
