    EBC pads are shite.

Personally I think upgrading the fronts to GT brakes is a worthwhile mod IMO simply because the sporting brakes don't use vented discs

I started a similar debate a while ago when i wanted to change all my brakes.
In the end i went for cheap drilled and grooved discs on ebay after hearing several good things about them - massive difference over standard and just over £100 for front and rear.

I used mintex redbox pads with them and they were pretty decent, not much fade but couldn't tell you how they'd work with standard discs.

They're dirt cheap for "performance" pads.

They're expensive compared to a standard Dairylea brake pad. But if you add together the cost of a set of DS2500's, some good fluid and a decent set of discs you'll find it's a cheap updated brake setup.

Even better you could add 250 quid to the cost and get a set of brembos and get the same pad/disc combo for them and you'll have hellish stopping power!
