hi ive got a mk1 1.2 16v sporting past couple of weeks have had smell of burning clutch at 70 on motor way but all seemed ok so have carried on today started car dipped clutch and was locked in nuetral tried for half an hour with engine running with no success .turned of engine put into gear then started car it judderd forward two foot then started and ran ok thought best not to take it to work have come home started it and all seems ok clutch is bitting at half way or there abouts any ideas as to what could have caused the earlier problem many thanks stu

The springs in the clutch plate have disintergratted then mate.
These have either trapped the plate open against the pressure plate or fell out reducing the assisted movement you already put on the clutch during regular use.
New clutch for you!
i have changed slave cylinder bout 2 months ago and brake lines and pads and fluid only fluid not changed was gearbox

Are sportings not cable clutch anyway? Wouldnt matter how much brake fluid was in it then...

no i dont think there cable i pinched a slave off one from scrappies
no its hydrolic i forgot to mention ive had the car since feb and have found that sometimes i cant get it into first and other times it just glides in dont know if that means anything
This happened to my brothers Mrs's car, ended up being the thrust bearing broke apart and the pressure plate lost about 5 of them teeth spike thingy doofers lol
