    Mini carbon project

Under took this last week and this, just finished it so thought id share....

    New comp centre caps

Made sure i had everything i needed, the only thing not in the kit you need is some sharp scissors, accurate scales (to be honest unless your covering an entire car in the stuff you'd be better measuring by the tea or table spoon!!!) and some Nail varnish remover to clean the brushs and anything else you get the epoxy on.

Roughed up the caps with the core grit paper that comes in the kit then cleaned them in soapy water.

Broke the Schwartz spices out and stuck the caps to them with some blue tac.

Slapped on the base coat and hardner

Also whacked in two older battered caps just encase anything went wrong and to test the cure on.

After a few hours curing i used some tissue to guestimate how much carbon fabric i would need per cap and then got cracking

You have to be very careful as its very delicate!

    stuck the centre on

As its a loose fabric its easily workable, so started working down the caps dabbing the fabric into the tacky base resin.

Worked it under the lip, which wasnt sticking very well, this is probably the angle and the elasticity in the fabric...

So unable to find any soft twine i reluctantly used some zip ties unsure if it would distort the weave while holding the fabric against the bottom lip of the cap

Cracked on to finish the rest off

After they were all on i applied the top coat and intended to piss about till about 2am and apply another coat but fell asleep, so left them like this lastnight. Gave them a quick blast on a hairdryer to remove bubbles in the resin.

Gave them another coat at lunch and later on i'll work the top coats down and laqaur before bed.

    Second update...

After the two layers of top coat the destructions said to rub it back flat, and then go through the grades of paper for a smooth finish...

flatted as much as i could be bothered, tbh they seemed alot smooth before i started so wish i had left them

    Laquar

Few imperfections, but i hate sanding and im **** at spraying!

Got them on nice and tight!

    Now onto bigger things

Do you know where else I can get any then by any chance? I need 58.1mm and another size I can't remember. I can get four proper 100% carbon fibre ones but they are £120
