about 4/5hours i would have thought
i did it in 5 hours in a transit, so a little less in a car.

Can be, but an enjoyable drive across Wales can be had, provide you're prepared for the extra time. Budget 6-6.5 hours for that sort of route, although I seem to remember something like 5.5 hours from Guildford to somewhere in N. Wales (not quite so far) in my Golf GTI 16V. is it a punto your picking up? its a long way to go in a car you've just bought. i hope its a good one fella.
Don't also forget that you'll need extra time for any unexpected problems like traffic or the rozzers scraping someone off a lamp-post.
