you put it so all the pistons are level.
but you need the tools really to keep them level when you tension it up and do up the cam pulley otherwise you risk it being slightly out and bending valves.

I have a slight problem...I have recently changed my headgasket & there is no markings on the top pully..Found the bottom TDC no worries as its on the clutch/flywheel..But there is no marks whatsoever on the top..Neither on the pully or the 2 cogs the other side.
Any help would be great!! pictures, links etc!!
