Mine sounded exactly the same as that. Had all the shims replaced and sounded like it had just roled out of the factory.

I've owned a 106 GTi, VTS and punto GT.

VTS FTW IMO. Handles just as well as a GTi if its lowered. Only thing thats better about the GTi is the half leather interior, but you can always stick one...

For sure, obviously reliablilty issues with the Mi16 lump, been around since the dawn of time!!

Good engines if you can find a good one though!!
