Im fitting my 17CM Alpine Type R front comps and I have a slight problem
I have removed the old speaker and went to fit it and there wasnt enough room at the back for the size of the Alpine magnets. So I have cut away some of the pastic to allow room for the magnet and now the speakers is hitting the metal frame of the door inside.
HELP!!!
Did people cut the metal part of the door? Or is there a better way to mount them?

I have just went out to the car and had a look at how deep these spacers are going to have to be and to have enough clearance there going to have to be an inch thick
Sureley that cant be right :?

Not sure mate, I know the Alpine R series have a deep mounting depth, but didnt expect them to be that deep !

I have said it before, pod speakers have to be very shallow, less than 2" as I remember. Kenwood and Pioneer do suitable speakers.

i custom built on top of the GT pods coz i needed the depth. got an MDF spacer, thats about an inch thick, shaved the edge to fit into the gap in the pods, stuck them in there, then fiberglassed the MDF to the plastic pods to hold them in place and strengthen the pod. Filler over the whole pods, smooth down with sandpaper, spray and then laquer. long process and im still not finished with it but i needed it as my focals have massive pole vented magnets on the back that look like they belong on a subwoofer
works a treat if you are prepared to do the work. :)

definately worth it- will make them sound a lot better as the GT pods are quite flimsy as standard and this adds strength- oh and MAKE sure you sound deaden doors with either dynamat or flashing tape- will keep a lot more of the sound inside the car which is what you want :)
