Help required.

My old CD unit eject system packed up so thought it about time to just buy an new H.U. Have had the new one in for THREE weeks. And now all of a sudden have lost all signal to the amp, via the RCA lead.

1. Have swapped over the old stereo for the new, as at least it was pumping out a signal, it worked at first, then nothing - no sound.
2. Checked all the cables - OK, but no sound.
3. Checked the amp, power indicator and all fuses OK - but no sound.
4. Bought a new RCA cable - but no sound.

From all this I was hoping it would of just been the RCA cable [Alpine, but 12 years old?!].

Tonight I'll try the old CD with the new RCA cable, this will hopefully determine the fault as being the H.U. or the amp.

Anybody have any ideas, much appriciated. As driving without ANY BASS is like not having sex, no point in living.

check the speaker cables again. if one of them is "pinched" or you have the positive and negetive touching anywhere at all, it would cause the amp to go into protection and not give out anything.

check the remote lead as well. some amps will show power if they have a live lead on the battery even if the remote lead isnt working properly. (wierd i know- but true)

I would agree with Mr B. Mekanik - check the cabling again. A short wire link from perm live terminal to the remote input of the amp will tell you if that's the problem. If nothing's found then maybe you can borrow an amp, do a quick swap of the cabling and see what happens? Maybe a fault with the pre-amp stage of your amp, depending on their age/quality/condition.

what amp is it? some companies will repair it for you. e.g. rockford will replace pretty much any mainboard on any of their amplifiers for dead on £100 (doesnt matter if the amp cost £100 or £1000 brand new- thats how much they charge)

I hate to think of how much equipment ive killed over the years, a few amps, loadsa speakers and more subs than i care to think about! (at least 8 or 9)

if not set a budget for the amp you want to buy and we can make some recommendations :)
